Phototype celebrates 100 years

Phototype is proudly celebrating its centennial in 2019.

For a century, Phototype has been committed to providing some of the world’s leading brands with innovative graphics and media tools – from the early days of color circular ads to today’s modern packaging and exciting eCommerce executions.

“It all began in 1919 with three visionary men who shared a common passion for delivering high-quality work and superior service. With just $4,000 between them, they acted on that passion and opened up a small production shop in Cincinnati and named it Phototype Engraving. The rest, as they say, is history” shared David Olberding.

David, along with his brother Steve, represent the 3rd generation of family leadership. They both grew up within this ever-changing, family business that was led for decades by their father, Dick Olberding.

Steve adds “As we look back on the past, we are deeply proud and humbled by all that we have accomplished. More importantly though, we look forward to the next 100 years.

Forward... to new ways of driving continual improvements, simplifying how we work and increasing the value of what we do. Forward... to bringing that simplicity to our clients while we continue to make their work better, their jobs easier. We’ve always had a culture of change and innovation. It’s never really ever slowed down, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s been one of the most exciting, rewarding parts.”

Today marks the kick-off of a year-long celebration – a celebration of where we’ve been and where we’re heading. A heartfelt thank you to all our employees, both past and present, who made this significant milestone possible. Congratulations!
